For lung cancer — early detection is everything.

While lung cancer is the second-most common cancer in the United States, it is the primary cause of cancer-related deaths. Screening can sometimes find cancer early, when it’s small, hasn’t spread, and might be easier to treat. That’s why it’s so important to get screened to determine if you’re at risk. You should consider getting screened for lung cancer if you have all three of these risk factors:

  • 50 to 80 years old (up to 77 years old for Medicare coverage) and
  • Have a 20 pack-year history of smoking (this means one pack a day for 20 years, two packs a day for ten years, etc.) and
  • Are a current smoker, or have quit within the last 15 years

*Not everyone who meets the initial criteria will be eligible for screening. Our team will work with you to weigh the risks and benefits of screening and help determine if screening is right for you.

An entire team dedicated to your care, the whole way through.

At MUSC Health, we know that during an uncertain time, that’s when support is most needed. Our Hollings Cancer Center, a national leader in cancer care, has a team of Lung and Thoracic cancer experts dedicated to providing the newest treatments available for your care.
